From grief to wellness & the caring in between

Jill Taylor, R.N.

I have been involved for many years with Hospice Palliative Care, which includes caregiving, death and dying, grief and self care as both a volunteer and a professional.

My involvement has ranged from sitting with a grieving wife whose husband has died to teaching the concept of Hospice Palliative Care to a class of Home Support Workers.

I have facilitated Caregiver Support Groups and Grief Support Groups. As well, I have developed a volunteer program to support family caregivers to help prevent burnout.

I have been part of a Working Committee to revise 'The Palliative Care Symptom Guidelines' manual for the then Fraser Valley Health Region. I have also worked and co-presented with Gabor Mate', M.D., Vancouver Physician and best selling author of many books, his most resent will be published October 2007 and deals with addiction www.drgabormate.com. I continue to liase with Dr. Maté on topics related to our work.

With the continual changes in government and private industries, I feel it is critical that people receive education and support to help them recover and to take responsibility for their own health. Once they are back on their own road to wellness, they will be able to begin to look at their options and opportunities that will allow them to resume a healthy productive life.

The time has also come for us to help care for our family, friends and neighbours. In order to do that, we must learn to care for ourselves physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

About Care provides this service through education, support and advocacy.
